Build Me Up wins MPSE Golden Reel

Grace and I with Sprocket during post-production on Build Me Up

I’m delighted to share that Build Me Up has been awarded the Verna Fields award at the 69th MPSE Golden Reels, recognising Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing in a Student Film! This award recognises the immense skill of our sound designer/supervising sound editor, Grace Wong, and is a very special recognition of the massive amount of time and attention we sunk into post production on the film.

The National Film & Television School has a history of wins at this ceremony, and we’re pleased to have become part of that fabulous tapestry. Sound literally accounts for 50% of our experience of an audiovisual story, and it was Neil Hillman who first turned me on to that fact. At the NFTS, that view is very much upheld, and I wanted to give Grace the time and support she needed to do the very best job she could.

Vital to this collaboration between her and myself were composer, Moritz Wanger, and editor, Oli Bauer, who supported Grace and wove their own crafts around hers; as she did with theirs.

I’ve dropped a little quote from Grace just below; if you’d like to read more, you can click here to read a delightful write-up in MPSE’s Wavelength magazine.

Grace reflects on making the film. This is an excerpt from the Wavelength article linked above. Drawing by me!
